Valentine Butterfly Card

This is first time I've done a scheduled post, so fingers crossed this post appears when it's supposed to!

I was honoured to be asked to be a guest designer for the Butterfly Challenge #23.  The format has changed slightly this year, with a twist of an extra ingredient going through the letters of the alphabet.  Challenge #23 is 'Butterflies with V for Valentine'.  Here is my card.....

I used a Memory Box ' Butterfly Heart' die for my card and this is the first time I've used the die.  When I bought it, I thought it would cut out all the butterflies and leave them as apertures, but it actually only cuts out the wings, leaving them to flutter on the card.  I liked the effect of the fluttering butterflies, but I wanted the butterflies to be red, especially as this is a Valentine's card, so I used the die again on a snippet of red card and snipped off all the butterflies.  I then stuck the red butterflies over the white ones on the original card and also attached a pink snippet of card on the back to give an extra bit of colour to the butterflies.  I was left with a red piece of card with butterfly apertures, where they were snipped out, which can be backed with another colour and used for a future project.  I'm really looking forward to seeing all the entries for the Butterfly Challenge #23.

I would like to enter my card for the following challenges:

  5. Another gorgeous MB die and a beautiful card Liz. I love the background paper which goes perfectly with the profusion of little butterflies on the pretty layered circles, and then the finishing touch with the sweet little red heart on the sentiment tag. x

  10. Oh Liz, I'm with you on that butterfly die! I also have it, scheduled post for next week, and you must have immense patience to snip out all those little butterflies and then add them onto the main die cut. It works beautifully though and I think I like it better than just backing the die with a contrasting colour. One to try next time!

  11. How fun for you to be the guest designer at the butterfly challenge!!! That is such a fun challenge site and I regret that often I forget about it. Your card is so lovely and that die is fabulous!!! Love that flurry of butterflies. They are so cheery in your valentine colors. Good for you being able to switch gears so seamlessly when the die didn't do exactly what you expected! Terrific change of plans and absolutely gorgeous result.

  15. You must have a lot of patience to snip and glue all those red butterflies onto the white. It was well worth the effort though. You've got me thinking of a similar style die I have that I could use for this challenge.
