When Santa got stuck in the chimney.....!

The last couple of weeks I've been on an unexpected emotional rollercoaster, so I've not done as much posting on my blog or blog visiting as usual.   Things are thankfully more or less back to normal, so I'm hoping to get back on track with my crafting and blog visiting this week.

The Christmas card I made today was supposed to be quick and easy, with the plan to make a few of the same design.  However, the  die I used didn't cut out quite as I expected, so I think this design may be a one off!  I have got this die design as a stamp which I bought earlier in the year in a bargain bucket at a craft fair and if I had found it, I would have used it instead!

The die I used is a Dovecraft Christmas die called 'Chimney'.  I thought the die would emboss the chimney and leave an outline of the snow, trousers and boots.  However, it cuts out all the bricks and leaves the trousers and boots as a solid piece of the die cut.  So, I decided to use a snippet of black for the main die cut, which left the boots and the trousers black. A snippet of red was used for the trousers which I attached on top of the original die cut - after all, Santa doesn't have black trousers!  All the white and brown pieces were die cut and inlaid.  The patterned paper is from my snippets drawer and I suspect it's from a LOTV paper pad.  The background is embossed with a Creative Expressions 'Frosted Stripes' e/f.   I'm sure Santa said "XXXXXX!" when he got stuck in the chimney, so I'll be hopping over to Beccy's Place Challenge, where the theme is up to the letter 'X'.

  3. Great card Liz, the die sounds very fiddly with all the bricks to inlay but it was worth it as the result is cool :)
    Hope you are ok

  8. I bet you said "XXXXXX" when you realised your quick and easy card was going to involve so much inlaying and fussy cutting too! A lovely card but I can see it was a lot of work and not one for mass production.
Hope all is well with you now

  9. You're so funny Liz!! I was wondering where the "X" was going to come in, and I can tell you, it's not what I was expecting. You gave me quite a laugh!
Sorry to hear you had difficulty with the die cut, but the effort was definitely worth it, your card looks fabulous. Even funnier now I know what poor old Santa was up against!
    Cheers,
    Beccy

  13. Annoying when dies don't cut out quite as you envisaged them but you've done a great job with the finished result. I can see this wouldn't been a good choice for batch making though!!

  14. Great card Liz! It’s strange how dies don’t always turn out as we imagine. Good to hear that things are returning back to normal for you.
    Take care.

  16. This is a really fun card Liz but as you say not as easily achieved as you had hoped so not one for batch making but very pretty using that snowflake embossing folder and patterned paper. So sorry to hear you have had a difficult couple of weeks but glad to hear things are much better now. x

  23. Brilliant card Liz - and what patience you have! Poor ole Santa but it did use up lots of little snippets - and that paper is from LOTV's 'Frosty Christmas - Blue' pad. Like you, I never throw away the teensiest scraps of LOTV papers these days although I just checked and they do them in digi form now. The offset of that is that we need more ink of course (as well as heavier paper).

Hope all is fine with you now chick - curved balls can totally throw us off track for sure.

    Hugs

    Di xx

    1. I didn't know that LOTV do the papers in digital form. Thanks for the info, useful for those times when LOTV patterns are just what's needed. xx
