Scorpio Birthday

This is one of those card that turned out totally different from what I'd planned!  The Less is More challenge this fortnight is 'Horoscopes'.  I decided to go with my own zodiac sign as I will have several cards to make for Scorpio birthdays later in the year.  My original design was a one layer 6" x 6" card, with just two strips of washi tape added.   It would have been helpful if I'd checked first, before colouring the image with Promarkers, that I had some matching or suitable contrasting washi tape!

So, Plan B was to die cut the coloured image with a Memory Box 'Stitched Rectangle' die and layer it on a white mat made with a larger stitched rectangle die.  I raised the image up on a sheet of foam.   The image is a free children's colouring picture I found online and I added a computer generated sentiment.

I am joining in the following challenges:

  4. Great card design. I guess I don't have any Zodiac sign images. Never seemed necessary to me but I can see where you have made it work wonderfully.

  5. It's a great card, Liz. It reminds me of when my mother lived out west and they had to check their shoes before putting them on. You never knew when one of those critters was hanging out in a dark shoe.[Bunny]

  7. Beautiful CAS design and a fab image! I've lost count of the times I plan something in my head only to realise I don't have the right stuff to see it through so it ends up completely different from original idea, this turned out great though!

  10. Well this free image is a beauty Liz and love the way you have coloured it, and raising it up and layering it on to another slightly larger stitched rectangle is just perfect. x

  11. I find my "planned cards" often have to evolve too!!! Could you have coloured your washi tape? Perhaps with an alcohol maker? Either way, the make you ended up with is lush, I LIKE the classic elegance of the faux stitched rectangles

    1. I tried colouring the washi tape with a Promarker, (great minds think alike 😉). I'm not sure what the washi tape was coated with, but the Promarker left a blotchy finish. xx

Love your scorpion and design ... isn't it wonderful how things turn out even better when crafting doesn't progress as planned?
