Home of the Beatles!

More about our visit to the home of the Beatles at the end of this post.

A birthday card today for a friend who likes anything elephant related.
I used a Memory Box ' Grand Happy Birthday' die with yellow card and backed the bottom part with grey card before attaching to the white card blank.  The elephant is a die from the Sweet Dixie 'Toy Giraffe & Elephant' set.  I backed the elephant with yellow card, which shows through the flower pattern and added a tiny clear gem to the centre of the flower.  The three flowers were made with punches and I finished off my card with a grey strip near the bottom of the card.

I am joining in the following challenges:
My hubby and I spent four days this week in Liverpool, the home of the Beatles.  I must be 20 years since we last visited and it still is the friendliest city I've ever visited.

View from the top of the tower including the Catholic cathedral, known locally as 'Paddy's Wigwam'.

A brilliant exhibition with everything you need to know about the Beatles.

My hubby turning the Fab Four into the Fab Five!

The gates of Strawberry Fields.

A stop at Penny Lane.

On the way home from Liverpool, we took a 'slight' detour to call in Lavinia Stamps shop in Ruthin, North Wales.

What a gem of a place to visit!

I bought a few crafty goodies, including a fan brush.  I remember seeing the brush used on a Lavinia video...... I just need to find the video again to remind myself what it was used for. LOL!

  2. Born, bred in Liverpool Liz - and worked there for over 30 years. A special city. Nice pics that brought back some memories! Hope you found time to visit the amazing Anglican Cathedral and of course Albert Dock - the police headquarters was right opposite where the tall ships came in and we had the best view in town!
And how good to be able to go to Lavinia on your way home - great goodies!!

  11. Such a bright and happy card! The little elephant is so sweet!

What wonderful photos of your time in Liverpool too! My middle son and I were there a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. I had though Liverpool was a rough place - but we didn't find that at all! I'm so glad that you and your hubby enjoyed your holiday.

Thanks for joining us at Little Red Wagon this week!

  13. Wow, Liz, what a fab trip! I know I would enjoy that very much - I've enjoyed the Beatles music since I was a kid listening to Dad's records. Lavinia store looks amazing too, what a fun time you must have had! Maybe the brush is to remove glitter? or to remove powder from powder tool remaining on cardstock after embossing? Lots of uses, I am sure! Your card is super cute too!

  18. Aww your elephant is so adorable especially with his ear raised from the card. The colour combo works so well especially for the flower inlay on his/her bottom. Oh my Lavinia Stamps shop looks amazing inside, definitely artistically owned x

  19. Glad you had a great time in Liverpool Liz, and The Beatles exhibition looks great. I particularly love the sculpture of them, so realistic, and you obviously searched out other places connected to them and their songs. The Beatles were definitely my favourites and I still have LP's of theirs out in the garage packed away, but I'm not sure what condition they will be in by now. I love your sweet elephant and it stands quite happily on your MB sentiment die cut, and love the punched flowers and also the little gem to finish the flower on the elephant. A gorgeous card. You did well with your purchases from Lavinia Stamps too and look forward to seeing what you make with them. x

  26. Loving your card Liz, that elephant die is so cool! Love the stitching on him and the cute flower. He is a great little elephant to add to the stash for sure and he looks so cute on your card. Wow, what a trip!!! That must have been so cool to be in the town where the Beatles came from. Love your husband standing with their statues. They have recently redid inside of the Strawberry Gates didn't they? I can't imagine being there never mind Penny Lane! The Catholic church does indeed look like a Wigwam. lol Glad you and hubby got away for a while! Hugs, Brenda

    1. Strawberry Fields used to be a children's home and apparently John Lennon often used to climb over the wall to get into the grounds. The original house has been demolished and the new building is now a exhibition centre. We didn't have time to go in.....we'll just have to go back again one day. Everyone on the bus sang 'Penny Lane' as we drove up Penny Lane. LOL! xx

If I'm honest, I'm a little bit envious of your trip to Lavinia, it looks amazing. I did visit North Wales when the children were young and I remember it being a very beautiful part of the world. It will be even better not with the Lavinia shop lol :) x
