Recycling

I'm sure I'm not the only one who saves shop bought Christmas cards received, with the intention of recycling  them and turning them into handcrafted cards...... only to still have most of them unused in December!  This year I'm determined to use more of them.  With the February Rudolph Days challenge beginning today and finishing on Saturday, it was the perfect time to recycle some shop bought cards and join in the challenge.

The first one is a card front trimmed to size, matted on dark green and attached to a card blank.  I added a few tiny white pearls where the larger berries were in the design.

For my second card, I used a Memory Box 'Stitched Rectangle Layers' die to die cut the image.  This is when I had a Senior Moment..... as the card was going through my Big Shot I realised, too late, that it was going to flatten the red pom-pom nose!  So I prised off the flatten nose and replaced it with one punched from red glitter card.  I used the red glitter card for a mat and with a left over piece die cut a scalloped strip using a die from the Memory Box 'Stitched Country Border' set.  The non-shed glitter card is from Hobbycraft and is a beautiful shade of red.

For my last card,  I made a green frame using a die from the MFT 'Stitched Circle Scallop Frames' set to frame the image I'd already cut into a circle.  The background is embossed with a Couture Creations 'Great Zane' embossing folder.  The framed image is raised up on foam pads to add some dimension.

I am joining in the following challenges with this card:

So that's three more Christmas cards finished to add to the box for next Christmas.

  12. They look lovely Liz and far to nice to get rid of. However, I do save mine for so long and then think I am never going to get to do this and recycle them - at least we have that option nowadays.

  14. Three great cards, Liz! I love to upcycle cards. I have been making a lot of them lately. Not only does it help reduce waste, it is a good way to use up those items that are saved and waiting to become a card.

I am trying to do a lot of that this year as I don't have a ;ot of left over space in my craft room!.

Thanks for taking part in the February Rudolph Days Challenge.

  16. Well Liz I hate to be the one to tell you that we are still in February, I did panic slightly when I read March R.D. thought it was me but as today was Pancake Day, I knew I was right.
Two super up-cycled cards, lovely images and designs. I must admit that I do save some cards but then I chicken out of using them.
    Happy Rudolph Day.

  28. No Liz, you are not alone. I save mine every year, last year I made a few from them, but that is it. I have good intentions, but that is it. I need to get on that myself. Your first and last cards are just beautiful, the second card is just to dang cute! To bad about his nose, but you save it beautifully and won't have to pay extra postage either. lol Hugs, Brenda
