Plaited Fold

The current Butterfly Challenge is 'P for Plaited Fold'.  I've never seen this fold before, but thought I'd give it a go.  Mrs A has put the instructions HERE.  I decided to go with all the elements of the challenge..... Plaited  Fold/ Periwinkle/ Peach/Plum/Pairs + a Butterfly.

I originally planned to do the plaited fold in a white card blank, but it was a bit thick, so I found a snippet of pale blue card, folded it in half and did the plaited fold in that.  I used the white card blank, which I'd already ruined by trying unsuccessfully do the plaited fold, chopped it into two rectangles to add a front and back to my card.  So nothing was wasted. 😉 The embossing was done with a Lisa Horton 'Pretty Leaves' embossing folder.  I made a flower with a Cheery Lynn 'Sunflower' die and positioned it at the end of one of the embossed stems.  I added a pair of punched butterflies using tiny foam pads and added the flight path of one of them with a fineliner pen.  The sentiment is from the Happy Little Stampers 'Doodled Flowers' set of stamps and also raised up on foam pads.

I am joining in the following challenges:

  2. Pleased to read that nothing was wasted when making this pretty card. I do remember similar folds from way back when you could get metal templates to cut the lines before folding, think it was called 'lace' - pronounced lasse with an accent on the 'e'.

    1. I’ve still got all my Lacé metal templates. Perhaps I’ll sell them as antiques one day. 🤣 Watching a Lacé demo many years ago was what first got me into cardmaking. xx

  8. This looks fabulous Liz with the pretty EF and the sunflower placed over it and finished with the punched butterflies. I love the idea of making this the fold for the card and it looks great...beautifully done by you as it takes a bit of working out. Construction is not my forte. I remember the lacé from way back and it is due a revival and this version is an interesting twist on the original. x

  9. Beautiful card Liz, love that you did the plaited fold. It's so fun and unique looking. The embossing, flower and butterflies are perfect with the plait as it reminds me of garden lattice. Hugs, Brenda

  18. Such a beautiful card Liz. The plat is so neat and reminded me of when I first started card making. I used to sit ages cutting through the metal templates to get a similar effect but they never looked as good as yours, well done! x

    1. I used to do that too... and often managed to snag a bit when I'd nearly finished - so frustrating! Doing it down the fold of the card like this is done with scissors. So much easier. I've got a few dies that create this effect too. xx
