The Less is More challenge this week is 'Mainly Teal' and as I haven't been able to join in this challenge for the last month, I was determined to get a card made for this week's challenge. However, my idea of a CAS, one layer card didn't go at all to plan!
The border and flower stamps were a from a set kindly given to me by Darnell when I visited her last week on our way home from our holiday. I stamped the border with a teal ink pad. My first attempt didn't stamp clearly and my attempt at trying to stamp over the top failed! A Misti, or the Tim Holtz equivalent, slowly crept up my wishlist! So I started again and stamped the border and flower. I then stamped the sentiment and it was almost straight, but not quite. The Misti crept even further up my wishlist! So, I abandoned my idea of a one layer card. I stamped the sentiment again on a snippet of white card and die cut it with a shaped die. I had the intention of attaching it with foam pads over the the original sentiment, but I realised it would have overlapped the flower which would have looked odd, so I attached it with DST instead. I stamped the flower again on another snippet of card, cut it out and layered it over the original stamped flower with foam pads. When I looked at the photo of my card on the computer screen, I realised that the bottom of the stamped border had slightly smudged. At this point the card was hovering over the bin! Then I had a light bulb moment and just sliced off the bottom inch of the card, getting rid of the smudged part.
I made three other cards earlier week and took several photos of each before sending them. But...when I went to crop the photos today, I realised that I had taken the photos on the wrong setting and they were badly out of focus! Note to self - don't take photos when suffering with jet lag. 😉

Aww, Liz, I can relate! I too have used the 'just slice it off the bottom' trick! I love your multi layered card, I think it adds great interest having the base stamped, a flat layer and a popped up layer all on one card with the same colour ink. How lovely that you got a chance to visit the playhouse too, very envious! :)

ReplyDeleteI know that feeling. The more you panic the more manic you get and in the end its an obsession to get it made photo'd and on your blog. I have to say that your card is brilliant and glad it didn't tip the scales and slide down the slippery ski slope! hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, Liz, the ol' cut-off-the-bottom-of-the-card trick! I've done it many times, as well as all the other "fixes" you mastered. We are creative MacGyvers, aren't we?!! Your perseverance paid off with this card cuz it's very pretty! I wish you had won one of the mini-Misti tools from my challenge. They really are amazing tools, especially for overstamping. I just saw a video about the new Tim Holtz one and love the features. I can't use it because of the magnetic base, but it seems like it might be even better than the Misti when it comes to holding down your card so it doesn't move when you open and close and restamp it. And it's a great price!

ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely lovely, you wouldn't know from the photo that it isn't exactly how you planned it from the outset. The extra shape and dimension give it depth without detracting from the overall CAS style. Well done for persevering

Glad you were able to save it, Liz--so pretty! I waited forever & finally got a mini MISTI. It's so worth it, except I wish it was the bigger one. I'll be getting the new Tim Holtz one--no messing with taking the pad in & out.

Still feeling happy you got to connect with our Miss D, and what a lovely set she gifted you. Loved reading about your trials in making this card, and so glad you stuck with it. The Misti is a terrific tool, (But I can still manage to screw up stuff!). I always enjoy reading about the 'saves' and this one turned out very pretty.
