This is a card I was asked to make for a friend to give her sister and brother-in-law. I was told what sentiment they would like on the card and as their gift was afternoon tea at 'The Ivy' she would like that to be the theme of the card. The choice of colours was left up to me.
I discovered that the colours for a 20th Wedding Anniversary are Emerald and White, so I used mainly these colours on the card. After going through my dies for inspiration, I decided to use the teapot from the First Edition 'Tea Party' set of dies. The ivy is a Joy Craft 'Autumn' die cut. I made the base card with a Spellbinders 'Happy Days' die and used a Sue Wilson 'Heart Lattice' embossing folder for the background. The pink hearts die cuts from the Sue Wilson 'Mr and Mrs' dies.

2020 is the year I'm determined to master how to crochet. I last picked up a crochet hook over 40 years ago and never got past the granny square stage. So..... last weekend I made my first project - a little bag using the double crochet stitch. (Although in the US I think the stitch is called something else.) It's just five rectangles sewn together.
I decided to leave off the handles and turn it into a box for my ink blending brushes. (Although they're really make-up brushes which are a fraction of the price and are more or less identical. 😉)

Love your little crochet project, looks perfect for your brushes and kudos to you for using make-up brushes instead of the expensive blending brushes, makes my heart sing when a cheaper option is just as good :) x

ReplyDelete2020 is also the year I want to learn how to crochet after several unsuccessful attempts in the past. I've never got past the 'chain' never mind a granny square. So next month I've signed up on a 'Learn to Crochet' course and am assured all participants will leave the class with a granny square!

I decided my second project would be a large granny square to use a lap blanket to take to the football when it's cold - in blue and white, of course! I'd forgotten how to make a granny square so found a brilliant video online. It's really easy to follow, with very clear instructions. ReplyDeleteLove your crocheting. A great holder for the brushes. I remember when my mother taught me to crochet. I thought I had it down pat. Turns out that my mother said I made up my own stitch. Oh well. I made a few blankets and decided it wasn't my thing. I couldn't keep count of how many stitches I had and when to start another row. [Bunny]

ReplyDeleteOh Liz, this is a beautiful anniversary card! I love how you took the ideas from the person who wanted this card and turned them into this beautiful card. The teapot was a great idea and I am just in love with it. I love that ivy as well. I don't own any ivy dies but maybe in the Cricut images. lol I love that you did a step card too, so fun! I didn't know that was the color combo for a 20th anniversary, I love it. Liz, I haven't picked up my crochet hook in many, many years either. I should pick mine back up too. lol Yes, we call it a double crochet stitch too. Your "container" turned out great and works perfect for your blending brushes. I got the make up ones too as they are the same and don't cost near as much. Shame when they take something and rename it and charge more. Anyway, that was a great idea to crochet a container for them! Hugs, Brenda
