Pocket Card

A card I made for a friend celebrating her birthday this week.  I'd seen several cards online with this fold but couldn't find any instructions, so I decided to use a 7" x 5" blank.  The front flaps are just folded from the fold line of the card blank to the middle of the long edge of the card.  After the card was decorated, the outside flap was stuck to the inside flap, making a triangular pocket.  All the patterned paper was snippets left over from previous projects.  I didn't quite have enought of the plaid, so it doesn't quite go down to the bottom of the inside of the pocket..... but you can't see the gap with the flaps going over the top. 😉

The main reason I wanted to make this type of fold was to be able to put in a lucky sixpence with the year of the recipents birth on it.  I put the sixpence in a little organza bag kindly given to me by Mia.  The patterned paper is from the Lili of the Valley 'Bonnets and Bowties' paper pad, layered on green mats.  The flowers and leaves are die cuts using the Sue Wilson 'Pinwheel Floral' set of dies.  I added pearls to the centre of the flowers, colouring them with a Promarker to match the pink colour in the patterned paper.

Thank you for all your good wishes for my daughter's recovery.  Exactly a month ago today she had emergency open heart surgery.  A tumour the size of a snooker ball was growing inside her heart and was discovered by chance.  Thirty six hours later she was in the operating theatre where the tumour was removed.  I will be forever thankful to the wonderful NHS staff who discovered the tumour, saved her life and looked after her so well in hospital.  Although it will be a long journey, I know her positive attitude will aid her recovery.   This photo of my amazing daughter was taken a couple of days ago when she had a trip to a fairly deserted beach close to where she is recuperating with her cousin.

Word Christmas Tree

The August Rudolph Days Challenge began yesterday and runs until the end of the month.  I've just realised that I haven't blogged for over a week, sometimes life gets in the way, but I didn't want to miss joining in the challenge.

A quick CAS Christmas card to share today.  I used a Sue Wilson's 'Christmas Tree Greetings' die with silver mirror card. The background was embossed with an embossing folder that came as a free gift with a magazine some time ago.

While I had the die and embossing folder out, I made a second card.  I think I'll be making quite a few more of this design as they are so quick and simple to make.

Sending Feel-Good Wishes

Is anyone else having trouble with the new Blogger format?  This is the third time I've written this post.  For some reason all the contents of the post disappear before I press 'Publish'. So frustrating!

It's now three weeks since my daughter's emergency operation.  I feel like I have aged 20 years in the last three weeks!  After a little blip when she was readmitted to hospital for a few days to sort out a couple of problems, she is now back on track with her recovery.  This is the card I made for her a few days ago.  As she's recovering from open heart surgery, I wanted to incorporate a heart into the design.

I used an MFT 'Cross-stitch Tag Die' with thick white card and I chopped off the top of the tag to make a rectangle. I found a free cross-stitch design on the internet and used crochet cotton for the stitching.  The pink background was embossed with a heart and daisy lattice embossing folder - I think it is an Embossalicious one.  I added tiny, white pearls to the centres of some of the flowers.  The sentiment is from the Stampin' Up 'Positive Thoughts' set of stamps and stamped in silver.  The layered sentiment is attached with foam pads.

Last week we were in our caravan to be near our daughter.  We brought her to the caravan for a few hours, together with our ten year old great nephew and eleven year old great niece.  Our daughter is recuperating with our great nephew and his family where she is getting lots of TLC.  While our daughter was having a nap in the fresh air the children asked to make a card each for an upcoming birthday.  With the limited supplies I had in the caravan, this is what they made.  I promised them that I would put photos of their amazing cards on my blog.

Football Fan

A birthday card for my niece's hubby.  It makes a change to make a football themed card in red, rather than the blue and white football cards I usually make.  He supports a football team across the other side of the city, so it had to be a red card this time. 😉

The image is a Sweet Dixie 'Football and Boot' die.  I used the die with black card for the outline and inlaid all the spaces in the ball and the boot.  The image is layered on Memory Box 'Stitched Circle Layers' die cuts.  The patterned paper is from Anna Marie Designs, layered on a black mat.  Six small punched stars finished off my card.
