Lest we forget

I joined in a challenge recently to make as many card designs as possible using one 8" x 8" piece of patterned paper. We were in our caravan last week and looking at the weather forecast, I thought this would be the perfect time to make cards for the challenge. I had a few ideas in mind, but used a 8" x 8" piece of scrap paper divided into 1" squares to draw a sketch of all the different shapes I needed to cut, using up the whole sheet.
I took the sheet of 8" x 8" patterned paper with me to the caravan, together lot of green and yellow snippets. I couldn't believe how many shades of yellow and green snippets I had! It took a while to make sure I had all the same shade of each colour, but I wanted to avoid using whole sheets. These are the seventeen cards I managed to make. I used the coloured card for matting and layering, a few dies and punches and some Nuvo drops and tiny pearls. The sentiments were stamped with Versafine 'Onyx Black' and all the cards were 4" x 4" or 5" x 5".
The patterned paper is from an old Papermania paper pad. It had tiny flowers on and the paper could be used in any direction.
This is the sketch I drew to make sure there were no pieces of patterned paper left over which I couldn't use. I numbered the shapes so I knew which ones were for which card and made a few notes on the sketch of how I thought I could use them.
I am joining in the following challenges:

Lovely memorial and great selection of fab cards.x
ReplyDeleteThe memorial stone on the left is for my great uncle who died aged 19, just before the end of the First World War. x
DeleteWhat an interesting challenge. I love your approach and the end results are amazing - well done for using the whole piece and lots of your matching snippets as well.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what a brilliant use of one sheet of paper. Fantastic display of cards!
ReplyDeleteWow, you did really well creating all those lovely and different designs Liz, what a fab challenge.

You are really a wonderful paper engineer Liz to work this out and have ideas of all the designs of the cards to make utilising the different shapes, and love the yellow and green plain card which coordinates beautifully with the patterned paper and who would have guessed you could make that many cards. Sad about your great uncle Liz, and its not until you visit that part of France and see all the cemetaries that you get an idea of just how many died. We visited the big memorial at Thiepval in Picardy several years ago. x
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tribute that is. I am overwhelmed with this post. Your sketch is truly awe inspiring and those cards blew me away. This is so very intricate and clever. You did a wonderful job with that challenge.
ReplyDeleteWow, Liz! What an awesome set of cards you made! What a great project to take with you in the caravan! I think maybe you won the challenge? Could anyone make more than this?
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the memorial photo. We just had our moment of silence here a few minutes ago.
I came second, Kitty. The winner used a piece of patterned paper with 56 houses on, fussy cut them and put two or three on each card and made 19 cards. If she had put one one each card, she could have made 56 cards! 😉 Now why didn't I think of that?! 🤔 xx
DeleteWell, I have a bit of arthritis in my knees, but I'm kneeling at your feet over this effort, Liz! It's like magic what you've done! This is why you're so good with the Twofer Challenge! I should have you do a seminar on the concept as well as the mathematics of using snippets on cards! Wait til Di sees this post!! I am in awe!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteShe saw it ans is stunned! Well done Liz!
DeleteDi xx

That is brilliant. I have lots of paper I can't bear to cut but I'm sure I could if I was going to use it like this. Your cards are very fresh and pretty in those colours and such a good idea to keep the colours tight. X
