Christmas in April

This card didn't start off as a Christmas card.  I was making some invitation cards for our Big Lunch street party which is happening in a few weeks.
The front was embossed with an old Sizzix embossing folder.  I made 18 of these cards and had the text ready to put on the plain panel on the front of the card.  I designed and printed the inserts in colour with all the details and a photo of last year's street party to perfectly fit a 6" x 4" card..... and then realised the card blanks weren't actually 6" x 4", but I think were the equivalent US size card. (Note to self..... always measure the card blanks to check the size).  As the inserts didn't fit, I decided to attach the printed inserts to a piece of coloured card and send out the invitations as a single layer card.

After thinking of what to do with all the half made cards, I made one of the cards into a Christmas card.
I used a snippet of red card to cut a panel to cover the plain white part of the card. Using a Cheery Lynn 'Winter Neighborhood Border' with a snippet of white card, I cut it long enough to fit the red panel.  After trimming off the excess I glued the panel to the base card.  The matted sentiment was attached with foam pads to add some dimension.  As I still have 17 cards with the embossed front, I think I will batch make a few more Christmas cards like this as they will be quick and easy to complete.

I am joining in the following challenges:

Following the Christmas theme, yesterday I was able to use the Christmas present my daughter gave me last December.... a ticket to see the Torvill and Dean 'Our Last Dance' performance in Birmingham with her.  The show was amazing!

  2. Hi Liz, a beautiful Christmas card, the two embossed parts are adorable. The village in the center is delicate and stands out very well. Excellent choice, the combination of white and red makes your card refined, congratulations. Thanks for joining the C.R.A.F.T. Challenge Tatiana x DT

  4. Really love this Christmas card Liz … a perfect and very striking way to use up those half finished cards. So glad you enjoyed Torville and Dean .. what a fantastic Christmas gift! We are going to see them in Liverpool a week on Friday - booked it over a year ago and am sooo excited!! xx

    1. I'm sure you'll enjoy the show, but recommend you get there early. I don't know what the queues will be like in Liverpool, but we queued for 40 minutes just to get in and missed the start. Thankfully, the first ten minutes was just music, so we didn't miss any of the skating. They wouldn't delay the start, even though there were hundreds behind us queuing to get in. xx

    2. Thanks for this heads up Liz … I’ll be sure to bear it in mind. Sorry you missed the start but thank goodness you didn’t miss any skating. The event organisers should have been better geared up than that … after all they know the capacity of the venue. I went to see a show at Liverpool arena (can’t remember what it was now) and they had moved the bag checking queues outside and the rain was persisting down … luckily the wait wasn’t as long as 40 minutes!! xx

  5. Fabulous festive make with your snippets. A happy accident from your original purpose.
Glad you enjoyed Torvill and Dean - but sorry to hear about the queues and missing the start that you mentioned above.

Thanks for coming to play in the Snippets Playground. See you up in the treehouse shortly. Will break out the ice creams in this mini heatwave! xxx

  7. The varying sizes of actual card blanks compared with their quoted size continues to be an annoying frustration and don't get me started on the cello bags to 'fit' 🙄. You've certainly made an excellent job of turning these into Christmas cards, so well done. Pleased you enjoyed your theatre trip once you actually got inside.

  8. What a shame that the cards weren't the size you needed. But, you have made a beautiful card with this one, very striking. Glad you enjoyed T&D but the queue sounds a nightmare.

    1. It’s actually one embossing folder with two different patterns and plain section. It’s a really useful embossing folder which I’ve used a lot over the years. xx

  23. Fabulous card Liz - I still have my 'Liz-influenced' snowflake folder close by me for a run of Christmas cards. I love scenes on Christmas cards such as yours, stunning. I remember Torvell and Deane so well from their medal-winning performance! We sat entranced in front of our TV screens way back in 1984. Bolero still sends shivers down my spine. Lucky you to see their Farewell Show!
