Crafty Calendar Challenge ~ Use Die Cuts/Paper Piece

The November Crafty Calendar Challenge begins today with the theme 'Use Die Cuts/Paper Piece'.  I've made two DT cards, one using die cuts and one using paper piecing.

The first card is using a new preloved die I bought recently and used for the first time. It's a Memory Box 'Snowmen Snowglobe' die, which I think should be used to make a 3D card using some other dies.  As I don't have the other dies and I couldn't find the instructions for how it should be used, I came up with my own way of using it.  The frame and snowmen are all part of the same set.  I was given some Crafter's Companion Christmas papers by a friend, so I used a small piece for the 'sky'.  I raised up the frame on foam pads to add some dimension.  The frame has a hole at the top, I think for some ribbon or twine, but I covered it up with a punched snowflake. The sentiment is a stamp from the Stampin' Up 'Greatest Part of Christmas' set, stamped with Versafine Clair 'Nocturne'.  I'm playing catchup with Beccy's month of Holiday cards, so this is my first entry.

My second card is using a old wood mounted Woodware stamp, 'Disco Diva' by Francoise Read.  I've had it for about 20 years and often used it for making birthday cards for children in my Reception class.  It hasn't been used for a long time, but I thought it would be a good image for paper piecing.  This card took me right out of my comfort zone, as I try to avoid fussy cutting whenever I can. I paper pieced the green part of the outfit and also the shoes and bag using papers from The Range.  The rest of the image was coloured with Promarkers.  I added three tiny green pearls around the image.  The sentiment is a stamp from the Stampin' Up 'Best Year' set, stamped with Versafine Clair 'Nocturne'. The sentiment and mat was hand cut.

I am joining in the following challenges with this card:

The Crafty Calendar Challenge ends on 28th November.  Please hop over the challenge blog to see the lovely creations the DT have made for inspiration.

  1. Lucky find of the Christmas dies and a super scene made using them. The paper pieced girl is such fun too even if it did take you out of your comfort zone.
