Flour

Well.... I've taken the plunge and I've clicked the button to try out the new blogger format on this post to test it out.

I made today's card for a friend who left me a bag of flour on my doorstep as a RAK. She knew I had been trying for ages to find some and it took a little detective work to work out who had left me the flour. In these difficult times, it's the little things that can mean such a lot. Who would have thought a few months ago that I could have got so excited about a bag of flour! A banana and walnut cake was soon in the oven!

The patterned paper is from an old Dovecraft paper pad.  I die cut a white square with a wonky stitched die and layered it on a pink square.  The cupcake was made with a Dovecraft punch.  The top of the cupcake was embossed with a Cuttlebug 'Tiny Bubbles' embossing folder to add some texture and raised up on foam pads.  The sentiment is a peeloff.  I used snippets for the white square and cupcake, so I'll be sharing my card over in The Playground.

I am joining in the following challenges:

  4. Yummy looking card, I love the pastel colours. The patterned is so cool. I don't mind the new blogger, took me awhile longer to do the post but it seemed pretty straightforward... although that could be famous last words. Flour is slowing returning to the shelves here but goodness me it's been like gold dust x

  6. That is a great card for the snippets challenge and also for the friend in appreciation of a bag of flour - as you say who would have thought something so ordinary (the flour, not the card!) could cause excitement. The cake sounds good too.

  9. I have so many other problems to sort out at the moment that I won't be pushing the button for the new blogger. It is supposed to go over regardless at the end of July so will wait for that to happen. Everyone else will be pros by then and I can beg for help!! So nice of your neighbour to give you flour. I maqnaged to get a bag of plain flour in my delivery shop and having to try recipes only made with plain flour and then adding either baking powder or dicarbonate of soda. Cheese scones turned out quite nice. Your card is lovely that you made as a thankyou. Hugs Mrs A.

  10. What a lovely thought and what a lovely card, great image and lovely papers although I am sure she would have also liked a slice of your lovely cake. Old saying "little things, mean a lot" nothing as true these days.

  12. What a wonderful baking themed card with the pretty cupcake and perfect to say thank you for the flour your friend gave you. I am not much of a baker so the lack of it hasn't really worried me, but for those that make cakes and pastries regularly it must be so frustrating. The banana and walnut cake sounds extremely yummy too. Glad your switch to the new blogger worked OK. I am leaving it for a bit before I give it a try, though if you are anything to go by it hopefully it shouldn't be too much of a problem. x

  16. Hi Liz,
such a lovely card and a brilliant design.
Love the paper and the super cupcake.
I managed to get a very big bag of flour from Amazon and have shared it with family and friends too.
My sister who lives in South Wales said there has been no shortages there till this week.
I always freeze mine for 5 days before I use it as once I had wheevils in mine.
Enjoy your Banana and Walnut cake.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

  19. Delicious card Liz and a lovely friends to leave you the flour. I've flour but can't get any light or/and dark muscovado sugar!

Sorry I've been absent with my comments, due to my health problems but now back blogging and commenting. What is so very strange (and it's making me feel as if I've come from another dimension lol) several people, yourself included, are doing or talking about the new Blogger! I've neither seen or read about this!

  21. What a delightful card, Liz! Love the embossed icing on the cupcake. Clever!!! So nice of your friend to leave you some flour. She will really like this card.

I am having a little trouble finding whole wheat flour for making bread. My son has delved into bread making and the WW is expensive in our local store. I tried to leverage store comparison shopping yesterday on a shopping trip a couple counties away yesterday, but ended up shooting myself in the foot because the place where I thought I could find it cheaper was completely out of all kinds of WW. Ended up without any, even though I did find some that was slightly cheaper than here at my local store. I'll just pay the extra fifty cents and buy it here at regular price.

In our basement pantry, we actually do have some Y2K wheat left (stored cooled, with oxygen eaters, and it is still just fine). Maybe hubby will fire up our grain mill and grind us some flour for bread. That would be the cheapest alternative!

Take care and enjoy that yummy cake!!!

  22. Liz, well I'm happy to see your new blog format! I am terrified of trying it - but it looks fabulous on my end. Such a terrific card and I love that your friend thought of you to bring you flour - yes, it's been in shortage and yeast, too! SUPER card and just love the post :)

  30. That's a real friend to source and leave you flour! Love the card you made to say Thank You - perfect! I'm coping with the new Blogger interface - so long as I don't switch horses in the middle of a post back to the legacy one it's working fine. I struggled with sizing images but discovered that instead of small, medium, large etc. you just click and dra to expand or contract the size to suit. Is that your understanding Liz? I couldn't find any other way to do it that would work without throwing the image to the top of my post.

    Hugs

    1. I already had the photo resized in a draft post from the day before, so I haven't tried resizing a photo with the new interface. I've reverted back to the old way for the posts I've made since this one. I'll have to try doing a post from scratch the new way. xx
