Herringbone

The Butterfly Challenge this fortnight is 'H for Herringbone Card, Hemp, Heat Wave, Hansa Yellow, Hazel and a Butterfly'.  Mrs A has a few tutorials HERE for the herringbone pattern, something I haven't tried before.  Rummaging through my snippets drawer, I found a piece of stripy patterned paper with all three colours in the challenge,  a contrasting piece of brown patterned paper from the same paper pad and a snippet of orange card.

Following Mrs A's instructions I made a herringbone pattern and attached it to a rectangle of card (another snippet).   I used strips 1cm wide, I think next time I'll use narrower strips.   I stamped a sentiment using a brown ink pad on a snippet of white card and punched it with a SU label punch.  I drew a few lines on the label with a brown fineliner pen for added interest.  I found a piece of hemp, threaded it through the holes in the label and attached it at the back of the herringbone card.  I tied a bow with a little piece of hemp and attached it with a glue dot.  The sentiment label is raised up with foam pads.  The herringbone card was attached to a 7" x 5" card blank with foam tape.  I finished off the card with a butterfly made with Poppystamps 'Elsa Butterfly' and 'Lyndon Butterfly' die.   All snippets today, except for the card blank, so I'll be sharing my card over in The Playground.

I am joining in the following challenges:

  3. Lovely card Liz. I have this card on my To Do list - haven't got to it yet. Lucky find with the paper having all three colours in it. I like how you used the hemp through the sentiment.

  5. This is a brilliant look Liz and a great way to use up papers from your stash. I think I should investigate some patterns like this as I have lots of papers, but have to admit that I probably haven't used any of them for several years as I tend to make my own backgrounds. I love the mix of colours and the contrasting white die cut butterfly and sentiment mat tied around the card with the piece of hemp. A terrific card. x

    1. I started off with one of the other herringbone designs, but for some reason I couldn’t get it to look right. This one was much easier. x

  12. I have some of that stripey paper in my stash too. I don't think it would have worked so well using thinner strips of it though. Thanykou for coming and spinnig the wheel with me. Hugs Mrs A.
