Stained Glass Threefer

I left it too late to join in the Twofer Challenge last month, so this month I'm making sure I get my cards made in time.  A bit of a change this month as there is no prompt word..... the theme is 'Your Choice!'  Two cards with different designs, for two different occasions, using the same die, stamp or stencil.

For my Twofer Challenge cards I used a Sue Wilson 'Butterfly' die from the Stained Glass collection.  I chose to use the prompt word(s) ‘Stained Glass’.

I am joining in the Twofer Challenge #36 with this pair of cards.

For my first card, I made the stained glass frame with black card, trimmed it to size and stuck it onto a double-sided adhesive sheet.  I used snippets in a variety of colours and inlaid the pieces.... it was just like doing a jigsaw, only easier.  The spaces were already sticky because of the adhesive sheet, so this was so much less messy and quicker to do than using glue.  The filled frame was attached to the card blank and a sentiment added.

I am joining in the following challenges with this card:
As You Like It Challenge ~ Favourite way to cut your image (& why) - Definitely die cutting, as it's quicker than fussy cutting and so much neater than I could do with scissors. lol

My second card is an Upright Z Fold card (or it may have another name 😉).  I die cut the frame in a snippet of white card, sprayed the back with adhesive glue, backed it with green card and layered on an orange mat.  I inlaid parts of the frame with orange.  The front panel was embossed with a Cuttlebug 'Swiss Dots' embossing folder.  The card folds flat for posting.

I am joining in the following challenges with this card:

I was ready to post my Twofer photo with this card, but when I looked at the card this morning, I decided the back panel needed some extra colour and I much prefer the result.

..... and finally a Threefer, a similar design to the first one, but just in black and white with no inlaid pieces.  Using the white frame over black gives a silhouette effect of the design.  I sprayed the back of the frame with spray glue before layering over the black card, so it was a really quick and easy card to make.

I am joining in the following challenges with this card:

No full sheets of coloured/black card were harmed in the making of any of the three cards, but my pile of snippets doesn't seem to have got any smaller!

  1. You've used this die to great advantage producing a variety of looks. You are right about the snippets, they never diminish and in fact mine seem to multiply even though I raid the boxes for almost every card I make.

  2. I would have thought this striking and fabulous die would have been difficult to create two very different designs with, but no Liz you've nailed it!....x.
Both cards are striking and I do like the extra colour in card number two and glad you went with that. Classy third card one too. Amazing and eye catching cards Liz x.

  5. This SW stained glass die is a beauty Liz and love the three different looks and the first two cards being for the Twofer Challenge and both using pretty pieces of card to inlay into it, the first a pretty scene and the second card in tones of orange and green, so bright and great for Easter and a wonderful shape. Lastly the threefer in just black and white is very striking too. x

  9. What an awesome threefer Liz...I love each card! Your very colorful 1st card is SOOO pretty and a labor of love fitting all those different colored pieces in, but so worth the time and effort!! Your 2nd card is just as lovely and I'm glad you added the extra color at the end...it really does pop now! And the black and white card is simply stunning!! You've really shown how to get your money's worth from one die and with 3 different designs! Thanks so much for sharing these beauties with us at The Twofer Challenge! :0)

  16. WOW! Liz, love the die and what you have done with it in the 4 cards. Your inlaid one? I admire your patience in placing all the pieces. Have to say I have a penchant for the B&W card.

  18. That is a beautiful stained glass image and I love your threefer using it, Liz! Really, the possibilities seem endless, don't they? It could become one of those personal challenges we all sometimes take on (like using every stamp in a stamp set): seeing how many different ways you could play with it. I sure love how you did the inlay on the first design and I think that would be my go-to because I love jigsaw puzzles. But I love it plain, or with pops of orange, or in black and white! Thank you for playing in TCC #36! Great choice of prompt! Hugs, Darnell

  19. I love your twofers Liz! That is a cool "quilt"/stain glass die. How fun that you made theses, but didn't get them posted last month, and this month's prompt is anything goes! Love that you were able to use them for this month's challenge! I love the colorful one, but I love the green/orange and black/white ones just as much. Great job! Hugs, Brenda
