Birthday/Anniversary Calendar

This is my latest Fiskarettes DT project which I can post here, now that it's appeared on the Fiskarettes UK Facebook page.

It made me smile when someone made the sarcastic comment about my project on the Facebook page, "Pen, diary or calendar suffices???".  It's a bit like telling a knitter "Why bother to knit a jumper when you can wear a bin liner".   She obviously has never heard the saying....

"If you can't say something nice,
then don't say nothin' at all."

Anyway, there are lots of lovely projects my teamies have made, so I hope you've got time to pop over to the Fiskarettes UK Facebook page to see them.

So, back to my project.  I decided to make a calendar for birthdays and anniversaries which is easy to update.  It saves all the hassle of writing birthdays and anniversaries in new diaries or on calendars every year and it was really fun to make.  The panel at the top is inexpensive foam board I bought from Hobbycraft.  It's really lightweight and easy to cut.  I covered it in green card, embossing the ends with a Cuttlebug  'Swiss Dots' embossing folder.  The flowers are punched with a Fiskars 'Sunflower' punch. The tags are punched with a Fiskars 'Ticket and Curly' 3 in 1 tag maker.  I colour-coded the tags, yellow for female birthdays, blue for male birthdays and red for anniversaries.  The tags are joined together by hinged rings, so it's easy to add tags and keep them in the date order.

This is a close up of part of the calendar.  All the tags and circles were punched from snippets, so I'll be off to play in the Playground.....

I would like to enter my project for the following challenges:

  1. What a fun project! Love this idea, as a perpetual calendar! Very creative and love the color and shape coding!

  2. Hi Liz, Wow, I know what I'd rather look at, your calender of special dates is so much nicer than any calender and would take up no more space than the traditional model... love that you can see the whole year at once, no more referring to pages on the calender when cards and or gifts required so easy to see... thanks for the inspiration... 3. Really clever idea Liz! I have a perpetual book for birthdays and anniversaries but this is lots more fun. And brilliant way to use up Snippets too.

Unpleasant comment was probably left out of jealousy on FB! She would be barred from the Playground, we only like nice people!

    1. I have a perpetual calendar for birthdays and anniversaries, but often forgot to turn it over at the start of a new month so needed the odd belated birthday card for those born on the 1st or 2nd of the month! :-/ xx

    2. SNAP! I was going to say that same thing in my comment Liz. I try to check a month ahead before the end of the previous month - but your way is much more fun. xx

  5. I love these calendars, and yours is a particularly pretty version. Interested to see that you'd used hinged rings as I was wondering about the best way to link them, cos I will get round to making one one day! Cara x

  9. This is fun as well as useful Liz and I hate card dates which come at the beginning of the month for the very same reason, and I tend to make just a few days before they need to be posted so I can make with challenges in mind too. Organisation is not my strong point ..lol. x
